Report

The final game of the season welcomed Rothwell Juniors to Low Ackworth, on a cold spring morning. Looking to finish the season off on a winning streak, the Ackworth boys set off in fine fashion - Jack Coupland bagging another goal from close range after Rothwell failed to clear a Luke Toulson corner on 1 min 54 secs. A great start was added to when a Rothwell defender headed a Joshua Cook long throw into his own net, 2 nil after 10 mins.

With a strong wind behind them, Ackworth continued pressing and were rewarded for their hard work  when James Pearce found the net with a well taken left footed shot. Rothwell were now rocking, going in at half time 3 up and one of the best first half performances from every Ackworth player.

After a stern warning from Andy at half time, the Rothwell lads did exactly what Ackworth expected and threw everything at them. Using the strong wind to their advantage, the Ackworth back four managed to hold out until 10 mins in when Rothwell finally got their first goal. They soon got their second when an unfortunate Kian Bryan deflected a shot into his own net. They got the equalliser after Charlie Gibson, deputising at left back, shoved a Rothwell player who hit the deck in a spectacular fashion, resulting in a penalty.

The match ended in a 3 - 3 draw, one of the best games this season, the Ackworth lads ended the season un-defeated in 4 games - a brilliant run of form.

Well done boys on yet another fantastic team display - it's looking like a fifth place finish - depending on if Wombwell win their last 3 games. Watch this space....
